Since childhood, I have been interested in sci-fi, mystery, and fantasy. My interest in time-travel movies has grown daily; I have watched over a hundred movies. Exploring the past and learning the possibilities of the future is interesting. The scientists have yet to pretend the possibilities of time travel. However, these movies help us understand its consequences and impacts. 

Furthermore, some paradoxes of time travel movies are the Grandfather paradox, the Bootstrap Paradox, and more. The movies related to time travel show the Earth’s condition at the time of extinction and the condition of other planets. They add many extinction situations, such as alien attacks, dryland, etc.

7. The Time Machine (1960)

George Pal directed the movie The Time Machine, which was released in 1960. Rod Taylor, Alan Young, Yvette Mimieux, Tom Helmore, Whit Bissell, and Doris Lloyd were the cast for the film. The movie is based on a novel, The Time Machine. Rod Taylor, a Victorian-era inventor, played the main role of H. George Wells.

He designed a time travel machine for future travel. He travels and discovers that humanity now has two species: Eloi and Morlocks. Eloi is a beautiful, childlike, passive vegetarian who knows nothing about technology. Morlocks are predators who feed on the Eloi for sustainability. 

6. Captain Nova (2021)

Maurice Trouwborst directed and released Captain Nova. It is a Dutch sci-fi movie released in 2021. It was awarded Best Children’s Film and Best Dutch Children’s Film. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the movie was unavailable in every cinema. However, in 2022, it was officially available on Netflix. 

Moreover, it was the story of a woman named Captain Nova. She has travelled to alert people about the upcoming environmental disaster in 2050. While travelling in the past, she became younger and could not deliver her message. 

5. 12 Monkeys (1996)

Terry Gilliam directed and released 12 Monkeys in 1995. It is an American science fiction thriller film. In this movie, a deadly virus spreads on Earth, slowly killing people in 1996. James Cole is sent to the earth in 2035 to save people. However, people thought he was mentally disturbed and locked him in a mental asylum. 

Furthermore, he meets with Jeffery Goines in the asylum. Goines is an environmental activist. However, at the end of the movie, he explains himself. The movie stars are Bruce Willis, Madeleine Stowe, Brad Pitt, and Christopher Plummer. The movie collected $168.8 million.

4. Source Code (2011)

 Duncan Jones directed Source Code in 2011. The plot of the movie is based on an army pilot named Colter. He awakes on a train and needs clarification on the situation. He was programmed as he can feel the last minutes of other people’s lives. However, his train explodes, and he needs to find the attackers. 

Moreover, he finds the bomber and wants to stop the explosion. He promises to die, but they keep him alive to use his power. But, in the end, he gets the chance to re-live the eight precious minutes of his life before death. The movie stars are Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan, Vera Farmiga, and Jeffrey Wright. 

3. About Time (2013)

Richard Curtis directed and wrote the 2013 romantic science fiction comedy About Time. The stars are Domhnall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, and Bill Nighy. At 21 years old, Time Lake learns he can travel in time and change his life. He tried to get a girlfriend but failed because he could not change the people’s feelings. 

So, he decides to use his power to help others, but he is unaware of the consequences. Ultimately, he knows he cannot change anything. But he appreciates whatever good thing he did. It is available on MKVcinemas, Amazon Prime, and Jio Cinema. The movie’s budget was $12 million, and the box office collection was $88.5 million. The film was nominated for several awards, including a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film. 

2. Mirage (2018)

Mirage, directed by Oriol Paulo in 2018. It is a Spanish mystery-drama that is one of the best time travel movies of the last decade. The movie stars are Adriana Ugarte, Alvaro Morte, Javier Gutierrez and Nora Navas. In 2019, Nico witnessed a murder and, while escaping from the spot, gets killed. 

After a few years, Vera and her husband and daughter live in Nico’s house. Through an old TV, Vera meets Nico. She warns Nico about the incident. Due to a mess with the timeline, Vera’s life takes a turn. She sees her husband is cheating, and her daughter does not exist. However, with the help of a detective, Nico, she tries to fix things and fails.

1. Interstellar (2014)

Interstellar is one of the most popular time travel movies. Christopher Nolan directed the movie in 2014. The plot involves time travel and shows that Earth is going to collapse. Humanity’s survival depends on finding a new planet. So, the group of astronauts, led by Joseph Cooper, are selected for a mission through a newly discovered wormhole. 

At the end of the movie, Cooper comes back to his daughter. But his daughter was in the 90s, and he was in his 40s. It is one of the masterpieces one has ever seen.
